This bulletin presents final estimates on the number of milk cows and the production of milk per cow from the years 1993 to 2012. Data included in this publication provide a historic record and a benchmark for current estimates. Disposition and Income data is published in the Milk Disposition and Income - Final Estimates publication.

This report concerns organic product prices. Included in this report are specialty crops, grains, poultry and eggs, and dairy. The data for each commodity contains its price range as well as the prior year's prices. Also included for select commodities are price trends from both the current and prior year.

This monthly report examines the monthly U.S. agricultural imports and exports on both a commodity basis as well as a country by country basis. Data tables of agricultural trade is provided for both volume of trade and value of trade for the recent months as well as the fiscal year. Regular publication of this report has ceased after the February 2007 issue, however periodic reports are still being issued.

This report will no longer be available at this location. The Agricultural Marketing Service will be handling this report under the title National Dairy Products Sales Report/ It will be available starting April 4, 2012 at. This report contains weekly weighted average prices received and aggregated volumes of sales of cheddar cheese, butter, nonfat dry milk, and dry whey. Information is based on a survey of manufacturers that sell specific products on a bulk, wholesale basis. Regional data is published where possible. Weekly reports contain the most recent five weeks of data.

This report provides commentary on trends in the U.S. dairy industry including the number of milk cow operations, percent of inventory, and percent of production by size group, focusing on the changes since 2001. Changes in milk cow inventory, milk production, and milk per cow are also discussed, as well as milk prices and the milk-feed ratio. The report is an update of the U.S. Dairy Herd Structure report issued in 2002.

This annual summary contains revised weekly weighted average prices received and aggregated volumes of sales of cheddar cheese, butter, nonfat dry milk, and dry whey. All revised estimates are based on three data sources: Agriculture Marketing Service (AMS) verification data performed by AMS auditors, resubmitted data to correct inaccuracies exposed by NASS during data analysis and/or discrepancy evaluation, and resubmitted data inaccuracies discovered by the plant during an internal review of program specifications to comply with the mandatory reporting rules. The release of the new Dairy Products Prices Annual Summary will incorporate all verification data and any other resubmitted plant data previously not available during the four week revision period.

NASS conducts weekly surveys of plants that produce and sell over one million pounds of nonfat dry milk annually in order to aid in determining a fair market value for raw milk and the implementation of the National Dairy Support Program. A reporting error was identified in the data published the weeks of March 31, March 24, and March 17, 2007, which resulted in revisions to the NASS weekly nonfat dry milk price. To determine the extent of the misreporting the National Agricultural Statistics Service conduced a special data validation of all qualifying nonfat dry milk plants to review collected data, resulting in revisions made by five firms. This special report contains the original and revised prices and volumes for nonfat dry milk.

This report provides insecticide use information on the dairy cattle sector of agriculture. All data refer to the on-farm use of active ingredients contained in insecticides applied during the 2001 and 2006 calendar years. Insecticides are applied to dairy cattle and dairy cattle facilities to control mange/mites, lice, flies, and other pests.

This annual dataset contains statistics on production, supply, and use of milk and other manufactured dairy products, including data on commercial, manufacturer, and government stocks and disappearance of dairy products, as well as import and export data. Also includes prices received by farmers, wholesale and retail price indexes, milk production costs, and information regarding regional shares of U.S. milk production. Tables are in .xls format and downloadable either separately or collectively as a .zip file. For many tables, the most recent year-to-date information is available from Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry Outlook: Tables on the ERS website.

This special publication was released on February 17, 2004 and contains the number of licensed dairy herds in the U.S. Beginning in 2005, data released in this publication was permanently incorporated into the February issue of the Milk Production report, along with the number of dairy operations by state that NASS has historically published.

This report contains weekly volumes and average prices for Class II and combined Class II, III and IV milkfat utilizations.

This special report highlights the increased size and production of U.S. dairy operations, as well as the ultimate consolidation. Overall number of cows and milk produced per operation is reported, as tracked over time.

The dairy industry underwent dramatic restructuring in the last 50 or so years. The 1997 U.S. Department of Agriculture report by Manchester and Blayney, The Structure of Dairy Markets: Past, Present, Future, described selected dairy product markets, firms in the markets, and changes in the markets and firms for the 1975-99 period. This report provides a similar examination of milk production. Structural changes in milk production are a result of long-term evolutionary processes such as adoption of technological innovations, changes in the production system, and specialization. The key features of milk production examined in this report are the quantity of milk produced and the location, number, size, and business organization of dairy farms.

Agricultural Outlook (AO) ceased publication in December 2002. A new magazine, AmberWaves, replaced Agricultural Outlook, FoodReview, and Rural America in February 2003. This archive contains AO publications covering commodity markets and trade, farm policy, and other food- and agriculture-related topics. Each release includes data on individual commodities, farm income, the general economy, agricultural trade, and related issues.

This report contains the estimates of the average price received by farmers and the average milkfat test for milk of manufacturing grade for the preceding month for the Minnesota-Wisconsin area. The report contains the Base-Month price and test determined via reports of total pounds of manufacturing-grade milk received from producers, total pounds of milkfat in the milk, and total dollars paid to producers, the estimated monthly two-State prices and fat tests, which are weighted by the total quantity of manufacturing-grade milk purchased from farmers in each State, and he Basic Formula Price.

This publication presented the prices (in dollar per pound) for cheddar cheese by style and region in the United States. All available releases under this title have been made available here.

This archived report does not contain recent information or data. This report provides a historical overview of the industry, more detailed examinations of the fluid milk market and selected manufactured dairy product markets, a discussion of future prospects and trends in the industry, and some thoughts on the implications of those prospects and trends for dairy farmers and their organizations, processors, dairy product manufacturers, and retailers. The U.S. dairy industry, many segments of which supported dairy policy changes in the 1996 Federal Agriculture Improvement and Reform Act, is much different than it was 20 or even 10 years ago. Last published September 1997.

This publication reports on the average price of farm products received by producers at point of first sale. Products include livestock, dairy, and poultry and related products, with earlier reports including vegetables and other farm products. The prices are organized by State and contain data from years 1866 to 1982.

This publication presents final estimates of prices received by farmers for all milk (1935-78), fluid market milk (1948-78), manufacturing grade milk (1948-78), milkfat in cream (1935-78), and milk sold directly to consumers (1935-78). Also included are the fat tests for all milk, fluid market milk, and manufacturing grade milk for the period of 1953 to 1978.

This report contains the estimates of the average price received by farmers and the average milkfat test for milk of manufacturing grade for the preceding month for the Minnesota-Wisconsin area, which produces over half of the manufacturing grade milk in the United States. The estimates are based on reports containing the total pounds of manufacturing grade milk received from producers, total pounds of milkfat in the milk, and total dollars paid to producers and an estimate of change from the base month. The current Minnesota-Wisconsin manufacturing-grade milk price combined with the final estimate for the two states, alongside the corresponding comparisons for milkfat percentage, are contained in the "Final Two-State Estimate," which are weighted averages of the final monthly prices for the two states combined.

In February 1983, this publication was discontinued and data from this publication began being covered in the monthly Dairy Products publication.

This publication reports on the combined production of evaporated whole milk and sweetened condensed whole milk. Shipments, stocks and prices are also reported, with comparisons made to previous months. This publication was produced between 1919 and 1972.

This monthly publication was produced from 1959 to 1972 and included data on the production of cottage cheese cream and curd by the thousand pound. The percent change in growth or decline is also noted.

This monthly publication presented the estimates for creamer butter and cheese production, by state and region, from 1938 to 1972. Starting in May 1972, the information published in this publication began being included in the Dairy Products publication.
