This report provides insecticide use information on the dairy cattle sector of agriculture. All data refer to the on-farm use of active ingredients contained in insecticides applied during the 1999 calendar year. Pharmaceutical products that treat cattle specifically for internal pests are excluded from the report, however dual purpose products that treat both external and internal pests and can be applied externally are included. This report is a chemical use survey issued by the National Agricultural Statistics Service on livestock and reports on insecticide use information on dairy cattle and dairy facilities in 17 selected states. Active ingredients classified by the Environmental Protection Agency as pesticides are included in the report. Pharmaceutical products for internal pests are excluded, but dual purpose products that can be applied internally or externally are included. Chemical use data is provided on a rate per head per application and rate per head per year basis. However, there is significant variation based on product formulation, method of application, and pest condition. Insecticide use information on dairy facilities (applied for the control of insects and pests only) is also included in the report.

This release includes information on insecticides applied to sheep and sheep facilities. Insecticides are applied to sheep and sheep facilities to control mange/mites, lice, flies, and other pests. The 22 major sheep producing States, accounting for over 80 percent of total U.S. sheep inventory, are included in this release. Please note the change in program scope from 2000 to 2010; the 2001 release included all sheep and sheep facilities, the 2011 chemical use data release excluded feedlots and operations with less than 20 ewes. Internal use pharmaceutical products are excluded from the report, but dual purpose products that can be applied internally or externally are included. Insecticide use information on chemical applications to sheep facilities are also included in the report. Beginning in May 2010, NASS agricultural chemical use data are published to the Quick Stats 2.0 database only (full-text publications have been discontinued), the latest data releases are available under the NASS Chemical Usage Program.

This survey reports the percentage and cost of wildlife-caused loss of catfish, as well as the average expense to prevent loss in a number of catfish farming states. The Catfish Losses to Wildlife report showed producers surveyed report some wildlife-caused losses, and that the primary types of damage were wildlife eating catfish. Birds were reported as being the most common cause of loss.

This biannual report contains the inventory numbers and values of all cattle and calves, number of operations and size group estimates by class and state, as well as for the entire United States. Also included are statistics on cattle on feed and grazing on small grain pasture, as well as calf crop data.

This report contains weekly weighted average prices received and aggregated volumes of sales of cheddar cheese, butter, nonfat dry milk, and dry whey. Information is based on a survey of manufacturers that sell specific products on a bulk, wholesale basis. Regional data is published where possible. Weekly reports contain the most recent five weeks of data.

This annual summary contains revised weekly weighted average prices received and aggregated volumes of sales of cheddar cheese, butter, nonfat dry milk, and dry whey. All revised estimates are based on three data sources: Agriculture Marketing Service (AMS) verification data performed by AMS auditors, resubmitted data to correct inaccuracies exposed by NASS during data analysis and/or discrepancy evaluation, and resubmitted data inaccuracies discovered by the plant during an internal review of program specifications to comply with the mandatory reporting rules. The release of the new Dairy Products Prices Annual Summary will incorporate all verification data and any other resubmitted plant data previously not available during the four week revision period.

NASS conducts weekly surveys of plants that produce and sell over one million pounds of nonfat dry milk annually in order to aid in determining a fair market value for raw milk and the implementation of the National Dairy Support Program. A reporting error was identified in the data published the weeks of March 31, March 24, and March 17, 2007, which resulted in revisions to the NASS weekly nonfat dry milk price. To determine the extent of the misreporting the National Agricultural Statistics Service conduced a special data validation of all qualifying nonfat dry milk plants to review collected data, resulting in revisions made by five firms. This special report contains the original and revised prices and volumes for nonfat dry milk.

Distillers grains or corn gluten feed are co-products created during the production of ethanol, and can be used as feed for livestock. NASS collaborated with the Nebraska Corn Development, Utilization & Marketing Board, an agency of the State of Nebraska, to conduct a survey of livestock producers in 12 Midwestern States to determine current usage of distillers grains, essential feed characteristics and concerns keeping producers from using distillers grains. The probability based survey contacted approximately 9,400 operations comprised of beef (cow/calf and feedlot), dairy, and swine species for information on their use of co-products, preferences in color, type of co-products fed, ratings of co-products, and/or reasons for not using co-products. The study included North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Illinois with a reference data of calendar year 2006. The National Agricultural Statistics Service is publishing the results at the regional level, combining all states surveyed for each of the four livestock species. Most of the estimates are proportions or percentages which allow for statistical comparisons among operations not feeding distillers grains.

Also included is historical data on the value of production of chickens and eggs as well contribution per state to the value of production.

Economic losses will be divided into three categories: field crops; livestock and poultry; and vegetables, fruits and nuts. The reports will also show how much damage was caused by different wildlife species. U.S. Wildlife Damage is published every 5 years.
